The Great Yarra Colouring Class, 2024 Riverfest

At the Great Yarra Colouring Class, kids, parents and other Yarra, Birrarung lovers will colour a word about the river in natural inks sourced from the river corridor. Organic colour is gorgeous! You’ll be amazed by how simple it is to paint with bark, earth and petal inks.

We’ll take a walk in the park by the river to help you find your special word. When it’s dry your word will join up with all the others into a documentary work of art.

We hope you’ll visit the river more often after this event. Maybe you’ll think about taking part in a planting. And of course keep trying out waste free art resources.

This event is proudly sponsored by the City of Yarra.

Eco-inking by the Birrarung - down by the riverside

Get together with people who like taking a walk and looking with fresh eyes. We depend on trees & the event celebrates National Tree Day.

The City of Yarra is close by the Yarra River/Birrarung which nurtures the life of many beings in its corridor and beyond. Did you know that in this council area there are 603 different plant species, including 7 threatened species and that 275 of these species are indigenous (local) to the area. Wow!!

Not to mention more than 278 animal species that rely on local habitats for food and shelter.

I’ll be inviting you to connect with trees, reflect on the river and make marks with petals, barks and earths.

Each activity is super easy and is inspired by the natural world of the Birrarung.

Bookings here!

We'll take a little time also to think about artful giving and advocacy. Art can be a powerful tool for positive change - let's try out using creativity and materials from the river banks for environmental advocacy and community support.

We hope that your participation in this World Tree Day event will inspire you to get down to the river more often and appreciate this unique asset in our city.

Eco-inking by the Birrarung, Mindful May

Mindfulness is always available to us if we take a pause.

For this special morning in Mindful May, I’ll invite you to connect with yourself, nature and others in the group through simple activities. Movement. Reflection on the river. The process of making marks with natural pigments that are readily available.

Taking in the beauty of the Yarra or Birrarung will inspire peacefulness, connection and expression. All the activities are easy and suitable for anyone who wants to get involved.

We hope that your participation in Mindful May will give you reasons to come down and enjoy the river more often!

Annie Bolitho has practised Zen Buddhism for over twenty years. She enjoys offering simple mindfulness activities that remind us to make the most of the 'one meeting' of each moment, and to open our sense doors to the world around us. Her workshops are easy going and inclusive, suitable for all ages and abilities.

Let's celebrate the beauty of our riverside community together! Hope you can make the time to join us.

Bookings here! The meeting place is the entrance to the Abbotsford Convent.

This project is supported by the City of Yarra through its Climate Emergency funding stream.
