Get together with people who like taking a walk and looking with fresh eyes. We depend on trees & the event celebrates National Tree Day.
The City of Yarra is close by the Yarra River/Birrarung which nurtures the life of many beings in its corridor and beyond. Did you know that in this council area there are 603 different plant species, including 7 threatened species and that 275 of these species are indigenous (local) to the area. Wow!!
Not to mention more than 278 animal species that rely on local habitats for food and shelter.
I’ll be inviting you to connect with trees, reflect on the river and make marks with petals, barks and earths.
Each activity is super easy and is inspired by the natural world of the Birrarung.
We'll take a little time also to think about artful giving and advocacy. Art can be a powerful tool for positive change - let's try out using creativity and materials from the river banks for environmental advocacy and community support.
We hope that your participation in this World Tree Day event will inspire you to get down to the river more often and appreciate this unique asset in our city.
This project is supported by the City of Yarra through its Climate Emergency funding stream
